Aydarous Bare, Events Steward

Hi my name is Aydarous, I’m 21 years old and I work in the Sheffield team as a Safety Steward.

I found out about the job through my Uncle who was already working for the company and I thought it sounded really interesting so I enquired and found that they were looking for new recruits. I started working when I was at college and now I am at University and as the work is flexible, it fits around my studies. The job is perfect for me and I do every event I can.

My job varies from event to event – I can be working at events from football to festivals on exit doors monitoring access, road closures re-routing the public, checking tickets, accreditation and passes or the pit looking for people who need help and monitoring the crowd. Every shift is different.

The best part of the job for me is the other people that I get to work with, everyone is cool. We get to mix with other employees from other offices and of course the customers. You get to chat to lots of people and it is a constant learning curve for me as I’m constantly learning new things from the interaction with different people from different countries and cultures.

Standing for long periods of time can be a strain on your legs but I have some exercises that I do to help ease the muscles and they do seem to work.

T in the Park 2010 has to be the best event that I have ever worked at. It was the first time I had ever worked the event and I really liked the headliner acts and the people I worked with.

My advice to anyone considering joining is enjoy it and make it fun. Take advantage of the situation that you are in and talk to your colleagues and customers as it makes the job more enjoyable. My mates at University are always asking me “where have you been this week” and they say “you get to see everything”.
