Kirsty Kennedy

Hi my name is Kirsty, I’m 21 years old and I work as part of the London team, mainly working at the O2 arena.

My mum is a supervisor with G4S and she told me about the job and I liked the sound of it, so I attended an interview and luckily I got offered a position as a Safety Steward. I had just left college when I started and I wanted to do something completely different to what I was studying and I really enjoy it.

My role is customer facing which involves showing customers to their seats, keeping an eye on the crowd, looking after the customers. You get some really nice people coming to the events and they make the job more enjoyable.

Meeting new people is probably the part of my job that I love the most. You can be having a bad day but one nice person can make your day.

Sometimes you have to deal with rude customers so the hardest part is having to bite your tongue but it is better to not take it personally and rise above it.

You get to work at so many good events but my favourite has to be the Smirnoff Sensation event at the O2 as the atmosphere was amazing – I have never felt anything like it. The customers made it and they were the nicest customers I have ever had. Another highlight was working at the Beyonce concert and when she ran through the crowd, she ran right past me.

My advice to someone thinking of joining is you need to be a good listener, have confidence in yourself and don’t be shy. Just be yourself.
